Translating

I'm doing some translation work for this shrimp production company in addition to teaching here at BYUH. The company hired a laboratory in Colombia to send a consultant to show this company how they might improve their production, but the problem is that the consultant that was sent only speaks a few words of english. Thus, Dr. Richardson (my former spanish and chinese professor) was contacted, and they asked him if he could recommend a student that might serve as a translator. Well, for whatever the reason, he approached me and asked if I wanted to do it. I told him my spanish was rusty but that I would give it a try anyway. And, well, so far so good.

The Colombian guy, Jaime, is really nice and has become a good friend, and I'm getting a chance to bring back all the spanish I had forgotten (or that was rusty). Plus, I'm learning all of these whacky things about shrimp production. It's quite interesting. (I say whacky because, to tell you the truth, some of the things they do to try and yield higher shrimp production is downright whacky.) Last, but not least, I'm getting paid for it ($14/hr.) and it something to add to my resume. So it's like a win-winwinwinwinwin situation. =)
